  • What is Stage Lighting Truss?
    Oct 19, 2023
Stage lighting truss (often just called a truss) is a modular, lightweight, rigid aluminum framework used extensively in live events (concerts, theater, corporate events, festivals) and installations to safely suspend lighting fixtures, speakers, video screens, scenery, and other production equipment above a stage or audience area. Purpose & Function: Support: Provides a strong, stable structure to hang heavy lighting fixtures (par cans, moving heads, LED panels, strobes), speakers (line arrays, subwoofers), video walls, projectors, scenic elements, banners, and rigging hardware. Positioning: Allows technicians to precisely position equipment at various heights and locations over the stage or audience (e.g., front-of-house positions). Cable Management: Often incorporates features or allows for the neat routing and securing of power cables, data cables (DMX, Ethernet), and audio cables alongside or within the truss structure. Safety: Engineered to safely bear significant loads when properly installed and rated. Lighting truss is a fundamental component in the world of event production and stage design. Lighting Truss often referred to as stage truss. This versatile structure offers lighting designers and event planners the freedom to hang lighting fixtures and various staging elements precisely where they are needed. What is Stage Lighting Truss? Lighting truss comes in various lengths to suit different applications. The most common truss lengths are 1m-4m allowing for flexibility in design and setup.   Common Types:   1. Ladder Truss: Simple, lightweight truss with two parallel chords connected by vertical or angled rungs. Primarily used for lightweight applications like drapes, banners, or very small fixtures. Not suitable for heavy speakers or complex lighting. 2. Triangle Truss: Triangular cross-section. Lighter weight than box truss of similar size but still strong. Good for lighter lighting rigs or as "ladder" truss for vertical structures. Often used for roof structures or where weight is a major concern. 3. Square Truss: The most common type. Hollow square or rectangular cross-section. Offers high strength and torsional rigidity, making it ideal for hanging heavy loads like large speaker arrays or complex lighting rigs. Comes in various widths and heights (e.g., 12"x12", 15"x15", 20"x20", 12"x24"). 4. Circle Truss: Made from curved sections forming a circle or arc. Used for special effects, circular video screens, or unique scenic elements. Lighting truss systems can be customized and accessorized to meet specific event requirements. Various connection methods and accessories are available to enhance functionality and aesthetics.  Bolt truss means Plated connection, Fork truss means pin and fork connection and Spigot truss means Conical connection.     In conclusion, lighting truss is an indispensable tool in the world of event production and stage design. Understanding its various types, applications, and safety considerations is essential for creating visually impressive and safe event experiences. Whether you're planning a concert, theatrical production, or any event that requires precision lighting and audio setups, lighting truss is a versatile solution that can be tailored to your needs.
